Armed Forces Day: Chemring Colleagues share their service experiences

As Armed Forces Week comes to a close, on Armed Forces Day, we are sharing more thoughts from colleagues on what the week means to them. Their reflections highlight pride in service, the importance of supporting veterans, reservists and military families, and the value of bringing Armed Forces experience into our workplace.
Ian - Back End Developer Diffuse, Roke

“I served for 14 years in the Royal Navy, mostly in Submarines, leaving as a DWEO. The skills I learnt, both professional and interpersonal, have stayed with me throughout my life and career. The sense of humour and drive remain steadfast where other things are wearing. "If you wish for peace, prepare for war" - never a truer word said.”

Alex - Participant Manager Academy Staff, Roke

“Armed Forces Week for me, is about celebrating the commitment and excellence of all our Armed Forces (seen and unseen) and remembering and honouring all those who have served in defence of our country and interests. I'm proud that Roke is a committed veterans and service leavers employer. We walk the walk as well as talk the talk.”

Larry – Senior Project Manager Diffuse, Roke

“Armed Forces Week means a lot to me. After serving over 24 years in the Royal Air Force as an Engineering Officer (Communications Electronics), it’s a chance to stop and think about the people I served with, the shared sense of purpose, and the sacrifices that Service life asks of both those in uniform and the families behind them. I feel very lucky to have had that chapter in my life, and that’s why I’m proud that the work we do continues to help, protect and support those that serve. It matters that we recognise and champion veterans, reservists and military families across our business.”

Rick - ILS Engineer Defence Operations, Roke

“I served for 23 years in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, including tours of Northern Ireland, the Falklands and Bosnia. It was an absolute privilege to serve, and I continue to support Veterans’ charities, in particular Veterans in Action (VIA). I actively fundraise for them and have recently held a party event to raise funds. Furthermore, I support events (Forces Transition Groups & Tech Vets) to highlight employment opportunities for Roke, offering advise on how to transition into civilian life.”

Thank you to all colleagues who shared their experiences for Armed Forces Week. Their stories bring to life the close connection between Chemring and the Armed Forces community and remind us why our continued support for service personnel, veterans, reservists and military families is so important. We are proud to recognise their contribution and to stand alongside the wider Armed Forces communities.
